LIVINGSTON TOWN

The rain stopped so we went into town and it is a very lively place with blocks of houses and shops with a mixture of Guatemalan and rasta type things.  I wish Stella had been here because the local school was having a karaoke dressing up competition and as we walked past a little black girl complete with Elsa dress and long blonde plait made of rope was doing all the Frozen actions for Let it go - I bet Stella would have stepped in to show her how to do it properly!  There are a couple of music schools around here where you can play like the locals!  We met up with some fellow travellers we saw at the start of our trip and we exchanged adventures - they are ending their trip with 8 days on the beach in Roatan - that's if the rain clears by then!  All the locals are complaining that the weather has never been so bad!
We are on a little point with sea around 3 sides - this is a typical street here in Livingston- interesting to read the history of the Garifuna people - began by being shipwrecked here from St Vincent - then the Brits tried to take them over and the French helped them but eventually we overcame then and then shipped them all out to Roatan - about 2,200 of them - from there they filtered back to work cutting crops etc and they have a strange mix of language and culture - very friendly folk
