SATURDAY 13TH - MOVED INTO LAKE IZABAL TO HOTEL TORTUGAL

Well, did it rain last night!  I thought we were going to float off into the Caribbean and yet this morning all was fine and they told us that rain was nothing!
It was sad to leave La Casa Rosada in Livingston which was a bijou place - amazing food and very laid back atmosphere and though the town was described as you love it or you hate it, I loved it's slightly ageing ramshackle quality and everyone was so nice.  We had a great night being entertained by Jeff who provided the Chilean wine in a box and John chatted to the group of French who were also very much at home there - it reminded me so much of the mangrove swamps in Vila.  The Pelicans and the cormorants and herons were ten a penny - then we left at 9.30 on a launch up the Rio dulce gorge with a group of French people and had a relaxed tour of the wildlife along the gorge including the hot water springs and the bird island and San Felipe castle built by the Spanish to keep our British pirates out.  The inland waterway is a paradise for sailers - amazing houses and sailing boats everywhere along here - thinking of you Paul and mum and how much you would like the laid back feeling and luckily the rain has made it fresh and decreased the humidity.  We have a short walk through a hardwood forest to go to the town of Rio Dulce or to the picnic spot of the San Felipe castle - we are not planning to do other than relax here again for 4 days.
We have a nice 3 bedded room on the first floor overlooking the water - it is very quiet and relaxed and personal service is the thing here
